Each figure drawing session is a two-hour studio gathering centered on drawing from a live nude model. The session begins with a series of one-minute gesture poses to warm up the hand, followed by two- and five-minute studies focused on observation, form, and movement. The evening concludes with longer 10–15 minute sustained poses, giving artists the opportunity to slow down and develop more resolved drawings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What materials should I bring? Do I have to draw with charcoal?

Basic drawing materials will be provided, including newsprint, vine charcoal, a drawing board, and a kneaded eraser. Charcoal is commonly used in traditional figure drawing because it’s excellent for studying light, form, and structure. That said, artists are welcome to work in other mediums if they prefer—such as graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, or digital tools.

Do I need drawing experience to attend?

Not at all. Artists of all experience levels are welcome. Some participants may have years of drawing practice, while others may be sketching from a live model for the first time. The session format—beginning with short gestures and building toward longer poses—works well for both beginners and more experienced artists.

Will the model be nude?

Yes. These sessions follow the long-standing tradition of drawing from the nude human figure. The atmosphere is professional and respectful, and all participants are expected to treat the model and fellow artists with courtesy.

Is conversation allowed during the session?

To maintain a focused studio environment, conversation should be kept to a minimum while poses are in progress. Quiet exchanges between neighbors are fine, but the overall tone of the room is intended to be calm and concentrated. After the drawing session ends, participants are welcome to stay, look at each other’s work, and socialize.

When should I arrive?

Sessions start promptly at the listed time. Guests may arrive up to 30 minutes before the session begins to get settled and choose a drawing spot. Early arrival is recommended, as seating and positions are first come, first served.

Are phones or photography allowed?

Please silence and put away phones during the drawing session. Photography is strictly prohibited out of respect for the model and the privacy of the participants. Anyone seen taking photos during a pose will be asked to leave the session.
